Pacific Rim Trailer
Plot summary: When giant monsters arise from a crevice in the Pacific Ocean, it starts a war that takes millions of lives and quickly consumes humanity's resources. To combat this new threat, a special type of weapon is designed: massive robots, known as Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. As time passes, even the powerful Jaegers prove almost defenseless in the face of a relentless enemy. On its last stand and on the verge of defeat, the remaining defending forces of mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes - a former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) - who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the early trials of the mechanical titans. Together, they must stand as the human race’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Star Trek into Darkness
The next movie in the Star Trek franchise (and the second in the current rebooted series) will be called Star Trek into Darkness (it is not a mistake that "into" is not capitalized) and is set for release on May 17, 2013.
You can watch the official announcement trailer on the official Apple site for the movie RIGHT HERE (sorry - can't embed it right now).
The trailer poses a lot of questions: is there another scene of a main character (or two, in this case) running towards then jumping off a cliff? Why are there at least two shots of a starship in, on, or under water? Where are the space sequences? And is Benedict Cumberbatch's character supposed to be Khan?
And here is the official sneak poster:

This looks about as 180 degrees different from the book as you could possibly get without adding giant, mechanical spiders.
Still might end up being a decent zombie flick, but I can't tell how this relates to the book at all except by the title.

Star Wars: Detours
I... uh.... I don't know what to say about this. I am at a complete loss. On one hand, this has the potential to be really well done. Hell, Seth Green is a co-creator, so that's good, right? And they've got some really great voice talent on board, including some of the original actors like Anthony Daniels and Billy Dee Williams.
But.... Hmm. I don't know what to think, yet.

The Walking Dead Escape
Think you have what it takes to survive a zombie apocalypse? Or would you rather try and catch human survivors after becoming a zombie? Check out The Walking Dead Escape during the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con where you can either:
(1) choose to be a human survivor and run a gauntlet through a zombie infected Evac Zone set up at the San Diego Padres' Petco Park
(2) or be turned into a zombie and try and catch the survivors
It costs $75 to try and run the gauntlet and $15 to spectate (the tickets for being a Walker/Zombie are sold out). This just sounds so abso-freaking-lutely awesome. I wish I had heard of this a long time ago - I might have dropped the cash to fly out that way for this year's con.
Be sure to check out the main site for more details including an interactive map of the run. The following is taken directly from the FAQ page of the official site:
Course Information
- The average time of completion is 35-45 minutes.
- The Walking Dead Escape is not a race. No one is timed, and you are not required to run, but the slow usually die for a reason.
- Be prepared to climb, crawl, and slide.
- Depending on the encountered Walker, you may need to move briskly or lightly jog in an effort to avoid infection.
- No one will be disqualified if they cannot complete an obstacle.
- The course has been specifically designed for participants with a wide range of abilities. Each obstacle is created to include an “easier route” for participants with limited physical abilities.
- On the day of the event, Survivors, Walkers and Spectators are expected to provide photo ID only. There are no hard tickets or confirmation printouts necessary. Spectator children under 16 who have purchased a ticket and do not have a photo ID will need to be accompanied by an adult.
Survivor Rules
- The goal of the Survivor is to make it to the Evacuation Zone without any contact with Walkers. We ask that you do not “fight back” should you come in contact with a Walker. There is no point - you’re doomed anyways.
- Survivors are expected to arrive 20 minutes prior to their wave time in order to register
- Be aware, the Government believes infection can be spread by touch.
- Government Scientists will be waiting at the Evacuation Zone and will perform a highly confidential scan to determine whether or not participants have been infected by the virus.
- If you come in contact with a Walker during the course, you will still be able to complete the course in it’s entirety.
- You must start with your registered Evacuation wave time in order to participate.
- All participants are expected to be respectful, safe, and courteous on the course and to fellow participants. The course was designed to create a fun experience; common sense applies.
- All entries are final with no refunds.
- All decisions by officials are final and binding.
- Costumes are allowed.
- Absolutely no weapons allowed (real or otherwise).
- No handheld devices (cameras, video cameras, water bottles, etc.) are allowed on the course. There will be a secure gear check for you to store your belongings prior to the start of your wave.
- Go-pro cams are allowed.
- Survivors must be 16 years of age on the date of the event to participate - no exceptions.
- Any Survivor who does not comply with the aforementioned rules will be banned from participation.
Walker Rules
- The goal of the Walker is to haunt your assigned grounds as brutally and as brainlessly as possible.
- Walkers must arrive 2 hours prior to their registered wave time for makeup and training. No exceptions.
- Walkers will receive further instruction on what to wear, etc. via email correspondence from The Walking Dead Escape officials. This information is proprietary to Walkers prior to the event as to surprise and scare survivors as much as possible.
- All Walkers will receive “Walker Training” prior to their shift.
- You must start with your registered shift in order to participate.
- All entries are final with no refunds.
- All decisions by officials are final and binding.
- Absolutely no weapons allowed (real or otherwise).
- No handheld devices (cameras, video cameras, water bottles, etc.) are allowed on the course. There will be a secure gear check for you to store your belongings prior to the start of your wave.
- Walkers must be 16 years of age on the date of the event to participate - no exceptions.
- Walkers will be able to keep their makeup on after finishing their shift.
- Any Walker who does not comply with the aforementioned rules will be banned from participation.
Spectator Rules
- There is no age limit for spectators.
- Children under the age of 16 who have purchased a ticket and do not have a form of photo ID are required to have an adult present at check in.
- All spectator tickets are good for 2 hours viewing time. Spectators are free to come and go from the viewing party at any time during their allotted 2 hours.
- All purchases are final with no refunds.
- All decisions by officials are final and binding.
- There will be food and drink available for purchase in the Spectator lounge.
What's Included?
- All Survivors and Walkers will receive an Exclusive Special Edition of the 100th Issue of The Walking Dead.
- All Spectators will receive an Exclusive Special Edition poster of the cover of the 100th Issue of The Walking Dead.

Dungeons & Dragons Cartoon Played Like the Tabletop RPG
Imagine playing a game of Dungeons & Dragons and having your characters be played like the characters from the old 1980's cartoon of the same name.
I love how the action on-screen will pause when the players roll dice or declare actions. The rules are a mix of different editions, but it's still very much D&D at its core.

Guild Wars 2 Beta Live This Weekend
The new Lion's Arch |
ArenaNet sold out of all available pre-purchase digital copies of their standard and deluxe editions (LINKAGE here). How does one sell out of digital copies? It turns out that since each pre-purchase granted access to the Beta event this weekend, they had to limit how many copies could be sold by the maximum amount of possible players per server multiplied by the number of servers. Current estimates put that at 48 servers' worth of players! I have no idea how many players per server that allows, but... DAMN. Could this be the game that balances the Free to Play models of D&D Online and Everquest with the monthly paid model of World of Warcraft? Guild Wars 2 will have some microtransactions but not nearly as many as those Free to Play games but that's because most of that cost will be offset by the purchase price ($60 for the standard game) with the added bonus of no monthly charge.
ArenaNet announced that as soon as their server loads can be better balanced once final tallies of player numbers come in (most likely when the Open Beta event is over) they will relaunch the pre-purchase website. I can't believe Guild Wars 2 has garnered this much attention and excitement - I love it! I may have to rethink my "not playing any multi-player RPG anytime soon" stance.
Russian Laser Tank
Did you know that back in the 1970's and 1980's the Soviet Union was developing an actual, working tank that fired lasers instead of ballistic ordnance? Per the Wikipedia entry for the 1K17 Szhatie, it was built on a Russian T-80 tank chassis with the turret replaced by a battery of artificial ruby focused laser cannons. Yes, seriously.

Hero? Or Final Boss?
It's all a matter of perspective. This reminds me of a great board game called Dungeon Run in which each player cooperatively works through a tile based, randomly generated dungeon to defeat the boss in order to obtain an item that turns the player who discovers it into the new final boss for the rest of the players to then focus on and defeat.
