SSX Gameplay Footage

Supposedly slated for a February, 2012 release, EA Sports' SSX is looking damned awesome despite the footage being from the Alpha build.

10,000?! Holy Crap!

I created this little shitty corner of the internet so that I could dump the crap I found online into one spot so that I could more easily share with my friends.  Now, I know this doesn't get a ton of site visits, but it gets a few here and there and to all of you that have found themselves here let me just send out a heartfelt THANK YOU.  I just hit 10,000 visitors a few days ago and am pretty psyched about it.

That's it.  No cool contests.  No prizes.  Nada.  Nuttin'.  Just my thanks for perusing this shitty blog space.  10,000 may be nothing compared to what everyone else gets on their sites but it sure seems like a ton to me.

Avengers - Then and Now

Real Superheroes Now Have Real Supervillains

I get weirded out whenever I read stories about "real life superheroes."  I don't mean stories about firefighters who storm into a burning building to save a puppy.  I don't mean a soldier who dove onto a live grenade, sacrificing himself to save the lives of many.  No.  I mean guys like Phoenix Jones who wear home made costumes and patrol the streets as vigilantes.  Sure, when I was a kid I used to fantasize about being a superhero.  And yes, when I was in high school I used to draw "realistic" suits of armor that could be worn in real life to battle actual thugs.  But the guys that actually go out and do it, well... they scare me a little and I can't put my finger on why.  They're harmless, mostly (unless they start squirting pepper spray at people they think are causing a ruckus).  But I'm guessing most actual thugs and "bad guys" don't take these guys seriously.

All that is about to change.  As the Joker said in 2008's The Dark Knight: "You won't kill me out of some misplaced sense of self-righteousness. And I won't kill you because you're just too much fun. I think you and I are destined to do this forever."  Every hero has his villain and for these "real life superheroes" they have organized.

Enter the Ruthless Organization Against Citizen Heroes or ROACH.  Per their website:

Our primary goal is to be a counter balancing force against the Superheroes of the world who's goodwill and penchant for spreading hope has gone on unchecked for far too long. Where they exist to help and motivate society, we exist to help and motivate ourselves and to bring society under our boot!
But! It can not be done alone! Only through working together may we achieve our goal of creating mayhem and chaos across the globe, and in the process CRUSH the costumed heroes of the planet! Then, once mayhem and chaos have been created we will use our superior intellect and braun to forge a new world order under the flag of R.O.A.C.H.
I love these guys!  They are about four hundred shades of awesome higher than any of these citizen "real life superheroes."  Their fearless leader is a smoky headed fellow named "The Potentate" and his second in command is "Plague" whose special abilities include being a "master of Wit and Scorn."

Just awesome.

Check out their official website HERE.

Battlefield 3 - Mid-Air Headshot

Complete luck or incredible skill?

2011's Worst Music Video?

So, a group of guys who like metal and also reminisce about a late 1980's era computer game called Alternate Reality decided to form a band and this is one of their music videos.  Sounds harmless, right?

Wrong.

And, in case you were wondering: yes.  These guys are actually serious.

I wish there was a new music category like "Hilariously Awesome" or "Terribly Cool With An Emphasis On Terrible."

Metal Gear Solid 5 Confirmed

According to GameInformer, Hideo Kojima (the creator of the Metal Gear Solid series) has confirmed that he is working on another Metal Gear installment that will be a direct sequel to MGS4.  Details have yet to be released but are said to be discussed in the next issue of Official PlayStation Magazine UK.

Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand Gameplay

Back to Karkand, Battlefield 3's first expansion (aka DLC), is set to be released next month (December, 2011) and includes the following four redone maps from Battlefield 2: Strike at Karkand, Wake Island, Gulf of Oman, and Sharqi Peninsula.  It will also include a new game mode (Conquest Assault) and a host of new weapons and vehicles.  Check out the Back to Karkand overview trailer here and then below that is a video specifically highlighting the Strike at Karkand map.

If you don't play BF3 but are a veteran of BF2, it's interesting to compare and contrast the following videos with the BF2 maps that you know and love.

Bioshock Infinite Gameplay Footage

This video came out a while back, but I just rewatched it and am still amazed at (1) how great everything looks graphically and (2) the new gameplay elements like the sky-hook.  Game releases at an unspecified date next year.

Definitely sit and watch this whole video.  Yes, it's long but you will miss out on quite a bit of the atmosphere and flavor if you skip around.

NEW SSX Trailer - Run D.M.C. Remixed by Pretty Lights

Just that subject heading alone is filled with rock hard awesomeness.  Anyway, here it is: EA Sports' latest trailer for SSX with a remixed version of Run D.M.C.'s "It's Tricky" by Pretty Lights.  Release date for the game is set for February 14, 2012, so for those of you without dates next Valentine's Day you now have something else to do with your hands.

Off To Work

Discounting anything from Star Wars' Expanded Universe, is it canon that Stormtroopers are all clones?  Are some of them recruits from the Imperial Academy?  If so, I imagine a scenario per the picture below isn't an altogether ridiculous concept.

The History of the Battlefield Games

Brought to you from GamerSpawn, here is a great look at all the Battlefield games from 1942 to the most recent iteration.  It's a long video (45 minutes) but a fantastic one.  If you're a fan of the series or have played the vast majority of the games in the series, you owe it to yourself to watch this.

Battlefield 3 James Bond Style

There are two things I love about the Battlefield series of games: the first is the sense of unity and cohesiveness you can really get out of a squad and team that works well together and the second is all the crazy shit people come up with... like the following vid.

Zombie In A Penguin Suit

This is worth the 7 minutes to watch and is really well done.

Steam Halloween Sale

Steam is powering through a Halloween sale going on now. Check it out HERE.  As you can guess, all the games are horror or vaguely Halloween themed.

Some standouts, IMHO are:

F.E.A.R. 3 for $ 29.99
Bioshock 2 for $ 4.99
Borderlands for $ 4.99
Amnesia (which I *HIGHLY* recommend) for $ 4.00
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Bundle for $ 8.74
Dead Space $ 13.59
Zombie Driver for $ 2.50
Silent Hill Homecoming for $ 13.59 (I'm a sucker for Silent Hill games)
Left 4 Dead 2 for $ 6.79
Resident Evil 5 for $ 9.99

And a host of others.  Even if you own some of these already, this is a great time to buy a copy as a gift for a friend who may not.

Graphical Interface On Your Wrist?

Is this a cool concept or useless one?

DC Universe Will Be Free To Play

More and more MMOs are following the Dungeons and Dragons Online and Lord of the Rings Online model and are becoming Free To Play (Now With Microstransactions!) and Sony Online Entertainment's DC Universe will follow suit on November 1, 2011.  I've never played Everquest or its sequel.  Nor have I ever played the mother of all MMOs, World of Warcraft, because of the Pay Per Month or Pay To Play models they incorporated.  I've always understood why those games charged for their games that way, but I never wanted to be a part of it.  Then D&D Online took a bold step and switched from Pay-to-Play to Free-to-Play and the game's popularity and in-game population skyrocketed.  Many other MMOs have also recovered from losses from switching to that model and I'm glad to see that DC Universe is going to as well.  Now's your (free) chance to become a super hero in the DC Universe.  Details about the different account packages available can be found HERE.

FYI City of Heroes, another superhero genre MMO, has also switched from Pay-to-Play to Free-to-Play (details HERE).

Playstation Network Hack Attempts

Have you received an official email from Sony Online Entertainment in regards to your Playstation Network ID and a possible hack attempt or asking you to change your password?  Check out this important post from Sony's Chief Information Security Offiicer, Phillip Reitinger (original post LINKAGE):

We want to let you know that we have detected attempts on Sony Entertainment Network, PlayStation Network and Sony Online Entertainment (“Networks”) services to test a massive set of sign-in IDs and passwords against our network database. These attempts appear to include a large amount of data obtained from one or more compromised lists from other companies, sites or other sources. In this case, given that the data tested against our network consisted of sign-in ID-password pairs, and that the overwhelming majority of the pairs resulted in failed matching attempts, it is likely the data came from another source and not from our Networks. We have taken steps to mitigate the activity.

Less than one tenth of one percent (0.1%) of our PSN, SEN and SOE audience may have been affected. There were approximately 93,000 accounts globally (PSN/SEN: approximately 60,000 accounts; SOE: approximately 33,000) where the attempts succeeded in verifying those accounts’ valid sign-in IDs and passwords, and we have temporarily locked these accounts. Only a small fraction of these 93,000 accounts showed additional activity prior to being locked. We are currently reviewing those accounts for unauthorized access, and will provide more updates as we have them. Please note, if you have a credit card associated with your account, your credit card number is not at risk. We will work with any users whom we confirm have had unauthorized purchases made to restore amounts in the PSN/SEN or SOE wallet.

As a preventative measure, we are requiring secure password resets for those PSN/SEN accounts that had both a sign-in ID and password match through this attempt. If you are in the small group of PSN/SEN users who may have been affected, you will receive an email from us at the address associated with your account that will prompt you to reset your password.

Similarly, the SOE accounts that were matched have been temporarily turned off. If you are among the small group of affected SOE customers, you will receive an email from us at the address associated with your account that will advise you on next steps in order to validate your account credentials and have your account turned back on.

We want to take this opportunity to remind our consumers about the increasingly common threat of fraudulent activity online, as well as the importance of having a strong password and having a username/password combination that is not associated with other online services or sites. We encourage you to choose unique, hard-to-guess passwords and always look for unusual activity in your account.

Interactive Trailer for Orcs Must Die!

The developers of the upcoming Orcs Must Die! (releases October 5 for XBox Live Arcade and October 12 for PC), Robot Entertainment, have released an interactive trailer on YouTube. I never thought a first person perspective for a tower defense game would work, but this has me thinking otherwise. That's right: I really said it's going to be an FPS Tower Defense game.

Anyway, they shot something like 60 different videos just to make up all the possible choices for the impressive trailer. Check out Part One below.

Exclusive Battlefield 3 In-Game Jet Footage

Believe me: you're going to want to watch this.

PS3's Long Live Play "Michael" Ad

If you'll remember THIS POST then you'll know Sony was going to do a follow up... and here it is:

As a love letter to gamers, Sony has absolutely nailed it.  This ad was deep fried in kickass and drizzled with awesome sauce.  They even went so far as to get all of the original voice actors to do their respective characters (Nolan North for Drake, David Hayter for Solid Snake, Roger Craig Smith for Ezio, etc) and inserted a metric shit ton of delicious gaming references.  See below for what some other folks on the internets have discovered (if some of the pics are tough to see below, make sure you click to embiggen).

He Went to Jared!

Allow me to state this up front: I can't stand those Jared jewelry store television ads.  If you don't know what they are or what they're like, feel free to Google it yourself as I will NOT post a link to them.  If I could spend 5 seconds with the ad exec that approved of the campaign, I'd hammer my fist into their face with the fury of a thousand suns.

However, because the ads are so damned awful they give way to such brilliance as can be seen below.

Video Cards Worthy of Battlefield 3

Battlefield 3 releases October 25, 2011, and the beta hits our systems tomorrow (September 29th, 2011).  How do you know if your video card is up to snuff?  Check out this handy chart:

Dead 4 Left

What if the background story of Left 4 Dead were reversed?  What if, instead of playing 4 humans trying to survive together in a post zombie-apocalypse world, you played four zombies trying to survive against hordes of humans.  I think this would make for an awesome mod or game mode.

Dark Lord Samurai Vader

Most people know by now that George Lucas found a lot of inspiration for the original 1977 Star Wars movie (Episode IV: A New Hope) in Japanese samurai epics.  Darth Vader's look, specifically his helmet, was based on samurai kabuto (helmets).  Knowing all of that makes the following piece of art that much more interesting.

The artist is Jose Vega and you can find more of his awesome art at his tumblr HERE

Darth Knight or Dark Vader?

PS3 Long Live Play New Ad

Kevin Butler, Sony PS3 Spokesman and Vice President of Almost Everything, has helped to kick off a new ad campaign for the PS3 called Long Live Play. The other morning, he tweeted the URL for the following video which has sparked a little talk along the interwebs about what the product might be. There's been speculation about a re-do of PS3's Home, a new PS3 store, and even some sort of Smash Bros-esque fighting game using characters specific to the PS3.

What is interesting to note in the video are the Twisted Metal ice cream truck parked outside of the building, the various forms of currency (paper, gold coins, and even a very Little Big Planet-esque glowing orb) in the collection plate, and then there's the weapons rack with iconic guns from the Resistance and Killzone franchises.

Batman: Arkham City - Joker Trailer

Batman: Arkham City will be released October 18th (PS3, Xbox360).  They've been releasing trailers for it based on the individual enemies that Batman will encounter.  Here is the final one villain trailer for the Joker.

Back to the Future Skateboard Scene A Capella

This is done by the same guy (guys?) who did the Matrix Lobby Scene a capella that I posted a few months back. Awesome stuff.

Save 30 Seconds or Save a Life

Driving at 65 miles per hour, it takes approximately 365 feet to come to a full stop. Just slowing down by 5 miles per hour can decrease that stopping distance by up to 100 feet. Is it worth it to save 30 seconds of travel time instead of saving a life? I implore you to please watch this entire video all the way through to the end. It's not as graphic as you might think, but it just might change your life.

Another Hawken Trailer

You may not remember, but check out this incredible footage of the game Hawken only 9 months into development that I posted back in March HERE.  Here's another glance at this fantastic looking game at 11 months of progress:

New Tribes: Ascend Screenshots

New screenshots of the upcoming Tribes: Ascend were displayed at this past weekend's PAX 2011 expo.  The game is currently slated for a first quarter, 2012 release.  Man, I sure miss me some Katabatic!

George R. R. Martin and the Avengers

Claudio Sanchez, lead singer for one of my favorite bands Coheed & Cambria, is also a hardcore comic book reader and fan (FYI: he has his own line of comics based on the storylines that pervade the Coheed & Cambria albums). Yesterday, he Tweeted the picture below. Apparently George R. R. Martin, the writer of the A Song of Ice and Fire series (most people might recognize the first book, The Game of Thrones, since it's now a popular HBO series), wrote a letter to the Marvel Bullpen back in the 1960's and had it published in Avengers issue #12 which, according to my basic research, hit the shelves in January, 1965.
